Olympic Torches!

Today we made Olympic Torches. We used our hand prints for the flames. This idea came from a great blog called Handprint and Footprint Arts & Crafts. We love our Olympic Torches!

A rainbow of fruit and vegetables.

We made rainbows of fruit and vegetables. Jacqui told us that we needed to eat lots of different foods especially a rainbow of fruit and vegetables. We talked about all the different fruits and veggies and their colours and then we made our healthy food rainbows!

Learning from an expert.

We were very lucky to have one of our Mums, Jacqui, come and talk to us about healthy food and how important it is for a happy and healthy life.

I didn't know that apples from the tree are the healthiest apples and I didn't know that fruit has a little bit of sugar in it. Aly

I learnt that vegetables are healthy for you. Bethany

I didn't know that there was a rainbow of foods. Nicholas

A rainbow of foods is all the different kinds of fruit and vegetables you can have. Mia

I learnt that carrots can be purple and yellow. Matthew

I didn't know that McDonalds and junk food isn't healthy. They are 'sometimes' food not 'all the time' food. Kobe

Thank you Jacqui for sharing your passion for healthy food with us.
We learnt so much!

Taking risks - Having a go!

Along with learning about healthy food, we have been talking about how taking risks helps us to learn. Today we had a taste test of healthy foods that were a little different. We had dates, figs, lemon, lime, pomegranate, kiwi fruit and dried apricot
Some Preps had not tried these foods before - Mrs Kennedy was so proud of all the Preps because everyone had a go. We had to draw a smiley face or a sad face on our record sheet to show if we enjoyed the food or did not enjoy the food.
Preps - talk to your families about the foods you tried. Tell them the ones you liked and the ones you did not.

Why is it important to take risks?
How does it help you to learn?

Healthy Dinners!

Today in Developmental Learning we used play dough to make a healthy dinner. We used the iPad to take a photo and record our descriptions of our healthy dinners using our favourite new app ShowMe
Hannah A, Hannah B, Aly and Mia share their dinners. Very creative!

What do you think makes a healthy dinner?

After School I ....

In maths today we were learning about different parts of the day  - morning and afternoon, before school and after school.
We had to draw four activities in sequence that we did after school last night. Then we had to describe our activities to our partner.
We have just started using the iPad and an app called ShowMe to record our learning.
We could listen to ourselves and learn lots of things about how clearly we were speaking and how well we described our activities.

Balloon Rockets!

Today we made balloon rockets. We followed a procedure and had lots of fun! When we had finished we worked with a partner to 'share the pencil' and write about what we did.

When you work with a partner you can help each other with spelling, remembering spaces between words, capital letters and full stops.

Tom predicted that the air we put in the balloon would help it move along the string. Well done Tom!

Kobe decided to write a procedure about how to make a balloon rocket. Mrs Kennedy was his partner and here is their writing using ShowMe on the iPad (another great free tool to support learning).

How does working with others help you to learn?

Healthy Sandwiches!

We are beginning this term by investigating what helps us to be healthy. We thought about healthy foods and what we need to make a healthy sandwich.

We are very lucky to have Woolworths (a supermarket) just down the road. So we wrote a shopping list (healthy foods only) and set off to buy our healthy ingredients. Some of our mums came with us - thanks mums!
Our shopping list - thanks Mia!
We learnt so much at Woolworths!

When we came back to school we made our healthy sandwiches.
Yum! Yum! Here we are eating our scrumptious sandwiches!

This term we are also thinking about taking risks and how that helps us to learn. These Preps tried some new foods today - here are their reflections:

I ate some carrot and I did not like it. I have never had carrot before. Tom

I had some celery and I liked it and I think I 'll have celery again. Aly

I haven't had capsicum and I tried it and now I like it. I will have it lots of times. Mia

I had mushroom and i didn't like it because it had a strong taste. Hannah B

I tried mushroom and capsicum. I didn't like the mushroom because I didn't like the taste. The capsicum was good. Bethany

I liked the mushrooms because they tasted good. I haven't had mushrooms before and I will have them again. Matthew

I tried cucumber and I will try it again because I liked it. Annie

I tried tomato and celery. I liked the tomato and the celery because they didn't have a strong taste. I will try them again. Ben

Why is it good to try new things?
Have you tried something new or different today?
What did you learn?
